Schist Villages

Part of the Serra da Lousã Natura Network, this trail runs along a traditional path that links the four villages that are part of the Aldeias do Xisto de Góis Network: Aigra Nova, Aigra Velha, Comareira and Pena. In addition to the Penedos de Góis, along the walk you'll see ovens, mills, a threshing floor, haystacks, corrals, pigsties and wineries. Some traditional or community structures still function. Along the way it is possible to spot birds of prey, herds of deer, visit the riverside woods of the Ribeira da Pena and other centuries-old forests, always along paths that create the least possible impact on the surroundings.

Penedos de Góis

The steep Penedos de Góis (1040m), next to the Schist Village of Pena, form unique slopes with waterfalls and rushing streams.

Góis and the Peneda River Beach

The Praia Fluvial da Peneda, located in the town, parish and municipality of Góis, is situated on the banks of the River Ceira, whose pure waters provide many tourists and visitors with irresistible and refreshing swims. It has a vast area of lawn and a sandy island in the middle of the river. It also has an imposing landscape, dominated by high and majestic mountains.

Vila Nova do Ceira and the Canaveias River Beach

Situated on the banks of the River Ceira in Vila Nova do Ceira, Praia Fluvial das Canaveias is a great place to relax, relax and get in touch with nature.

The Ceira Gorge or Cabril do Ceira Gorge or Portas do Ceira

This is probably one of Portugal's most undiscovered natural treasures. A place of undeniable beauty, its crystal-clear waters compete with the spectacular narrowing effect caused by the quartzite canyon. Relatively unexplored, it is one of the points of interest in the parish of Serpins, in the municipality of Lousã, but its dirt tracks mean that only the most knowledgeable visit it frequently. A long, high gorge is crossed by the river Ceira and ends with a small weir that helps form a natural pool where you can take a dip. It is a very beautiful and pleasant river beach. It forms a mirror of water that reflects the quartzite walls of the slopes as if they had been cut straight down. At some points they are over a hundred metres high.

Travelling along this trail is a trip back in time, as you remember the route taken daily by the millers who used it to access the various watermills that can be found here. Village of Gondramaz (the perfect village)

The village is structured around a main street that overlaps the festoon line as far as the slope allows. From this street, a network of narrow, winding alleys which you'll want to browse with curiosity. We are welcomed with a poem by Miguel TorgaThis can be found on a metal plaque in the reception area of the village.

Gondramaz is distinguished by the specific colour of the schist that surrounds us from head to toe. Even the ground you walk on is an example of the finest craftsmanship. This is, in fact, land of artisans whose skilful hands create charismatic figures which are a hallmark of the mountains and carry the name of the master and the village across borders. Located on the western slope of the Serra da Lousã, the landscape that surrounds Gondramaz is Nature's work of art. The streets of this village have a fine acoustic that awakens all our senses. Within its streets, people's voices become clearer and more inviting.
