This activity proposal aims to provide a weekend in Oliveira de Frades, with trails of unusual natural beauty, through paths and levadas, along the banks of the River Gaia and the Lavandeira and Tombos streams. The connection between these watercourses is along the Ribeiradio reservoir. On the second day we'll walk along the northern slopes of the Serra do Caramulo, with its typical villages, the Carvalhedo da Gândara, the largest continuous national patch of oak and the Dólmen da Arca, a national monument! We'll end our event with lunch at one of the best restaurants in the region. Come and join us for another event not to be missed!

TIME: Departure from Lisbon at 7am
RETURN: Arrival in Lisbon at 7.30pm

Rivers, Levadas and Waterfalls Route

The cave of the Moors, the mudflats and the old ladders that were once used to cultivate the fertile land nearby are available to walkers for a marvellous journey through the past. The levadas serve as a trail for much of the route. Water used to flow through them to irrigate fields and meadows. Always with the river in the background, sometimes walking along the bank or moving away to gaze at the landscape that has formed in the distance, we come across the immense beauty of this place. In Cadavau there's the well and mine of the Moors, the wooden bridge and some mills, while on the Gaia river and a little further on there's the waterfall where the Gaia river joins the Lavandeira stream. We'll also pass the Ribeira de Pias or Ribeira dos Tombos before arriving at the Ribeiradio reservoir, where we'll return to the starting point.

Caramulo Villages

Considered a very diverse trail, set in the Caramulo mountain range, its main points of interest are: The villages of Covelo and Paranho, Dólmen de Arca, a National Monument since 1910, Carvalhedo da Gândara, the country's largest continuous patch of Alvarinho oak, and the viewpoint with the chapel of Nossa Senhora da Paz, among many other points of interest.
