Event Description

This proposed walk starts near Soutocico Kindergarten, in the parish of Arrabal, in Leiria. We'll walk through woodlands, farm valleys, discover the Chitas stream and some traces of human occupation in the area, as well as Lapa da Figueira. Above all, we'll uncover a “secret” of the Curvachia Forest. Another event not to be missed!

Walking in search of the Secret of the Curvachia Forest

On this walking route you can discover a forest of centuries-old oak trees and Mediterranean vegetation that is still completely untouched, with great botanical and landscape value, where there is a well-kept secret that we will discover.

Along the route in the Curvachia Forest we will walk through the Ribeira das Chitas Valley, a rural valley with archaeological and ancient agricultural remains, lime kilns, where the Ribeira das Chitas flows, which is a tributary of the River Lis. From the waterfall we'll follow the river along the Ribeira das Chitas valley with all its imposing rock formations, as far as the imposing Lapa da Figueira.

Prehistoric remains associated with communities that lived in the Lapedo Valley millennia ago were found in the forest, especially pieces of flint used by the men of the time.
