This Walk by Caminhando will take place on a magical trail of great beauty and diversity, in enchanting landscapes, such as the Amazon Trail in Maceira. Another event not to be missed!

Walking the Amazon Trail (Maceira)

It will be approximately 10 kilometres, in a circular route, starting and finishing next to the Maceira Municipal Market car park. This is a route that passes through the trails that run through a hidden and magical valley, where a living and abundant fauna and flora grow next to the Arneiro stream bed, where the peace and harmony of the forest in its purest state joins the beauty of the waterfalls in the stream bed, a place that for its beauty has been baptised over the years as the “Amazon” of Maceira.

We'll walk through woods, pine forests and cultivated fields to a gigantic, century-old cork oak tree that will open the door for us to enter the magical trails of the “Amazon” valley. This is a place where we can observe the varied, rich and luxuriant vegetation around the stream, as well as the rich fauna, where we can see and hear a wide variety of birds and, if we're lucky, even squirrels. By the water, depending on the time of year, we can watch the marvellous flight of dragonflies.

Afterwards, we'll walk through the houses to the Chapel of the Hermitage of Senhora da Barroquinha, an ancient place of pilgrimage and prayer, with its imposing waterfall and lake, where in times gone by you could wash your body and soul, and rest in its picnic area.

Back at the starting point, we'll once again find the magical valley, through which we'll once again wander and which at its end will leave us right next to the meeting point.
