Georota do Orvalho - Walkways, streams and the waterfall

In the heart of Beira Baixa, as part of the Naturtejo Geopark, we find one of the most recent walkways in the centre of Portugal. We're talking about the Orvalho Walkways, one of the many attractions in the municipality of Oleiros. These fantastic walkways are located in the village of Orvalho and not only allow you to see a series of UNESCO-listed geomonuments, such as the Fraga de Água d'Alta waterfall and the Cabeço do Mosqueiro, but they also offer some of the most overwhelming and breathtaking landscapes in the whole of Beira Baixa.

At the Cabeço do Mosqueiro viewpoint, there are superb 360° panoramic views. The views over the Serra do Açor, Serra da Gardunha, Serra da Lousã, Serra da Estrela and the meanders of the River Zêzere will leave you awestruck.

The Fraga de Água d’ Alta waterfall is a 25 metre drop overcome by a succession of three turbulent, roaring veils of water.

Lunch will be in the form of a picnic, which is the responsibility of each participant

Walking along the banks and weirs of the Ribeira de Oleiros

This circular route takes in a small part of the town of Oleiros and runs along the course of the Ribeira de Oleiros, where you'll find a variety of beautiful scenery provided by the water and the beautiful landscapes along its banks. In the town, the Igreja da Misericórdia (Church of Mercy), built in the 16th century, deserves a mention. The interior of the Mother Church is a treasure formed by the harmony of the extraordinary gilded altarpieces, the panel of Hispano-Arabic tiles and the rich ceiling made up of polychrome wooden coffered ceilings. The route then continues along the banks of the Ribeira de Oleiros. Next, the route leads to the simple village of Tojeira, along a riverside path that crosses the Açude da Salina and follows the levada of the same name, once trodden by the local population. From the aforementioned village to the Tapadona picnic area, the route continues along rural paths that follow the stream. Here, the presence of small herds of goats is commonplace.
