There's also time for a stop at a river beach and a trip to the S. Pedro do Sul thermal baths. The Route of the Goat and the Wolf (The Way of the Dead Man Who Killed the Living Man)

Although the route starts in the picturesque village of Pena, the road that leads to it can already be considered part of this journey, taking us deep into the earth, where we then find this village built in schist and guarded by massive slopes. Heading north-west, the road climbs the Serra de São Macário, first in a forested area and then in a stony world, where we recommend paying special attention to the steep slopes. As far as the village of Covas do Monte, the landscapes are larger than the world, especially on the northern and eastern slopes and, still at the top, we are struck by the geometry of the farmland in this village that we will pass through. Another Herculean climb follows, always immersed in the vastness of the mountains, until in the distance we can already see the village of Covas do Rio, which we reach after a few zigzags through the forest area that surrounds it. Now heading south, the ex-libris of the route, the path where the dead killed the living. On schist, we walk with the Pena river in the background and an autochthonous flora of rare richness. Small waterfalls and ponds follow, the path turns into a staircase and then the Livraria da Pena appears, just before the almost miraculous return to the village of Pena.

Lunch will be in the form of a picnic, which is the responsibility of each participant

Drave

For those who are enchanted by it, Drave is the «Magic Village», protected by the mountains. A sublime mystery yet to be unravelled. With no electricity, piped water, gas, post, telephone or mobile phone, the «Magic Village» has, on the other hand, the charm of the schist houses contrasting with the whitewashed chapel, the murmur of the waters of the stream that runs through it, the singing of birds, the free flight of insects.

Regoufe

The history of Regoufe can be traced back to prehistoric times, as evidenced by the presence of tumuli. The Visigoths left their mark, visible today in the place name: Regoufe or King of the Wolves. Tons of tungsten were extracted and exported from the subsoil of this place and the mountains that surround it during the 20th century. The mines were mainly used by the Allied Forces for the manufacture of military equipment used during the Second World War, during which time the mines were concessioned to British entrepreneurs who exploited them. Around a thousand people worked here, from Valongo, Viseu and elsewhere.
