This walk starts at the Cabo Espichel Sanctuary and, in addition to the marvellous surroundings of the area, goes along the coastline to Areia de Mastro Beach. We'll also pass by some fantastic natural pools and make the leap to the Colourful Cave! A route not to be missed, between the green of the mountains and the blue of the sea, with landscapes and trails of great beauty, where we unwittingly stumble across pieces of history millions of years old, such as dinosaur footprints! Another event not to be missed, just right for keen walkers.

Cape Espichel Sanctuary:

From the cult of Our Lady of the Cape and the four-century Ermida da Memória, in the 18th century by order of King Pedro II and King José, a sanctuary was built that would continue to be worshipped until the transition from the 19th to the 20th century, when it went into decline.
The sanctuary includes the church, built between 1701 and 1707 in the ground floor style, two wings of guest houses built after 1715 and extended between 1745 and 1760, the water house dating from 1770 and supplied by an aqueduct, and the opera house from the late 1800s.

Areia do Mastro Beach:

Praia do Mastro, or Mastro Beach, has a base made up of pebbles and cobbles, with a very interesting rocky plate that extends all the way to Cape Espichel. Here the Ribeira dos Caixeiros meets the Atlantic Ocean. At low tide, you can see a thin tongue of sand that remains uncovered next to the waterline.
