Event Description
The aim of this walk is to cover the entire Tagus riverfront, from the Pavilion of Portugal to the Póvoa de Santa Iria pier, on a recently opened walkway that allows you to enjoy more than 8 kilometres of Tagus riverbank, where you may be lucky enough to spot Flamingos, which are often found in this area and near the mouth of the River Trancão! The return journey can be made using the train on the Azambuja Line, which will take you to the starting point in 10 minutes. For those who want to "stretch this route to 30 kilometres", you can return via the Fátima do Tejo Way. Another event not to be missed!
Loures riverside path
The Loures riverside path was inaugurated on 7 September 2023, a project that had a final cost of 13 million euros, six million more than was planned when the contract was awarded. There are 6.1 kilometres of a pedestrian walkway along the River Tagus that links the municipalities of Loures and Lisbon, between Santa Iria de Azóia and Parque das Nações, but also reaches Vila Franca de Xira.
The wooden construction has 4,612 stakes 3.5 metres wide. The route includes 10 bridges along the way, 14 tunnels, four observation bridges, 1,621 trees and 41,420 shrubs. There are few walkways like this one, with six kilometres built over the river marsh, allowing all users a closer connection to the river and several birdwatching spots.
Route 1 - 12kms - return to the starting point by train at Póvoa de Santa Iria Station - 8€
Route 2 - 30kms - circular walk, returning via Várzea de Vialonga, Alpriate and Caminho de Fátima do Tejo, to the mouth of the river Trancão - €15
Estimated finishing time: 1.30pm or 5.30pm, depending on the route chosen
