In the Ribeira do Mogo Valley

The route begins in Chiqueda, which is deeply connected to the river Alcoa, which rises near this town, more precisely in the Ribeira do Mogo valley. The Suão well is a cave where you can see the underground water arm that feeds the source of the river, one of the most important karst springs in the region. Heading towards the village of Cadoiço, you can see the hanging valleys of the Serra dos Candeeiros. They are so called because they are suspended less than halfway up the slope, when the gradient becomes gentler towards the top. These valleys, together with the escarpment of the mountain, make up one of the most beautiful landscapes in the PNSAC (Serras de Aire e Candeeiros Natural Park).
The path then follows the Ribeira do Mogo Valley, located at the foot of the western slope of the Serra dos Candeeiros, one of the most important natural areas in the municipality of Alcobaça. The valley, which currently runs along its bottom, is characterised by its deep, sinuous groove in the limestone formations. The stream is temporary, with considerable flow in winter. At the end of the valley, when it reaches the town of Chiqueda, the stream joins the River Alcoa.

13.30 - Picnic lunch

15h00 - Visit to the Interpretive Centre of the Battle of Aljubarrota

Located in the village of São Jorge, its exhibition area combines an innovative concept of entertainment and education that is divided into four sections, which help visitors to understand what the Battle of Aljubarrota was and how it all happened. The first two exhibition areas are dedicated to the Battle of Aljubarrota, the period in which it took place and the archaeological discoveries on the battlefield. There is also an auditorium for the projection of a multimedia show that reconstructs the Battle and the events that led up to it.

16h30 - Walk along the banks of the Lis and the historic centre of Leiria

8pm - Suggested Group Dinner

At the source of the River Lis

This route promotes the natural beauty of the source of the River Lis, where, in some months of the year, you can see the water springing up in a surprising way. Passing through the valley between Serra da Maunça and Serra da Senhora do Monte, the route takes us along dirt tracks and paths that alternate between areas of scrubland and forest.

At its highest point, you can see the city of Leiria and, on days with good visibility, the Berlengas islands.
