Event details

Event Description

This proposed walk starts in the centre of the village of Montelavar and heads towards a green valley where the Cabrela stream flows serenely. Along the way there will be many places where you can hear the sound of rushing water, and we'll pass through woods where you'll just want to stay or have a picnic. We'll have the opportunity to visit the Armes Waterfall and the Bajouca or Fervença Waterfall, places of great beauty, especially after the rainy season, when the waterfalls show all their beauty and grandeur. We'll also have time to see an ancient Roman bridge and beautiful rural landscapes! Another event not to be missed!

Montelavar

Montelavar is a village located in the northern part of the municipality of Sintra, and has been the seat of the parish of the same name since the 16th century by patriarchal order dated 1538. The exploration, cutting, stonemasonry and artistic work of ornamental stone, particularly marble, has made Montelavar one of the great centres of this industry, both nationally and internationally. At the same time, other associated industries grew up around the ornamental stone industry, such as metalworking, machinery and tools, industrial carpentry, etc.

Armés Waterfall

The Armés Waterfall, hidden by ancient ruins, is an amazing sight that can be enjoyed in all its splendour, depending on the water flow.

Fervença Waterfall

The Fervença or Bajouca Waterfall is located in the town of Fervença, near Terrugem, and is the largest in the municipality of Sintra. This waterfall is fed by a stream with a reasonable flow, which comes from Granja do Marquês and then rushes down the hillside towards Ribeira da Cabrela, a tributary of the River Lizandro. In the past, this stream drained the marshes that existed at Quinta da Granja or Marquês, as it was also called because it was owned by the first Marquês de Pombal.
