EVENT: Weekend in Terras de Sicó - Buracas de Casmilo, Canhão de Vale de Poios, Santiago da Guarda and Redinha
DATE OF REALISATION: 28 a 29 de Novembro de 2026
ENROLMENT DEADLINE : 31 August 2026
EVENT DESCRIPTION: “Weekend in the Lands of Sicó - Buracas de Casmilo, Canhão de Vale de Poios, Santiago da Guarda and Redinha”
In this activity proposal we will go on two hikes in an area where tranquillity and memories of other times reign. We start with a hike from the village of Furadouro and the most emblematic point is the Buracas de Casmilo, in the Serra de Sicó massif, where there is the highest concentration of potholes in Portugal. This is an unmissable experience for those who enjoy walks that combine stunning landscapes, impressive geology and a touch of mystery. After the walk we'll visit the Monumental Complex of Santiago da Guarda, where there are traces of the Romans who passed through here. On Sunday, the walk will take in the Vale de Poios canyon, one of the most impressive fluviocratic canyons in Portugal. This trail also passes by the Senhora da Estrela Viewpoint and Chapel and the Dolina dos Poios, among other places of interest. Come with us and you won't regret it! Limited places

Walking: “Casmilo Hole Route”
Points of interest: Buracas de Casmilo, Aldeia de Furadouro, Aldeia de Casmilo, Sanctuary of Nossa Senhora do Círculo and Natural landscapes
Located in the municipality of Condeixa-a-Nova, the Buracas do Casmilo Trail is an unmissable experience for those who enjoy walks that combine stunning landscapes, impressive geology and a touch of mystery. The highlight of this trail is undoubtedly the Buracas do Casmilo, a series of cavities carved out of the imposing limestone cliffs. These formations are the remains of ancient caves which, over the millennia, were moulded by erosion and partially collapsed, leaving large “holes” in the cliffs visible. The result is an almost surreal scene, where the force of nature has carved out real windows into the region's geological past. Although they are not real caves, these holes served in ancient times as shelter for animals and possibly for the region's first inhabitants. Today, they are one of the most emblematic places in the Serra de Sicó, attracting not only hikers but also photographers and nature lovers looking to record their grandeur
Route length: 11 kilometres
Estimated duration: 3h30
Level of difficulty of the route: 3 (Scale of 1 to 5)
13h30 - We suggest the picnic option, which is the responsibility of each participant.
15h00 - Visit to the Monumental Complex of Santiago da Guarda
A National Monument since 1978 and the only example of Manueline architecture in the county. It brings together in the same space a four-century tower with a medieval base, rebuilt on the ruins of a Roman Villa from the 4th and 5th centuries, and a Manueline palace, built by Simão de Sousa Ribeiro during the first half of the 16th century.
16.30 - Short walk in Pombal
18h15 - Hotel check-in
19h45 - Suggested Group Dinner
Dia 29 de Novembro (domingo)
Walking: “Vale de Poios fluvial canyon”
Points of interest: Vale de Poios river canyon, Senhora da Estrela viewpoint and chapel, Poios doline, natural landscapes, etc.
The route starts in the village of Poios and follows rural paths with stone walls, olive groves and agricultural fields, offering a gradual entry into the wild environment of the canyon. As the trail progresses, the road narrows and turns into a stony track that leads deep into the valley, a dramatic scene marked by rocks, steep slopes and dense vegetation. The route continues towards the villages of Mocifas de São Amaro and Covão das Favas, combining rural paths, pine forests and stretches of tarmac. The ascent to the geodesic vertex of Senhora da Estrela (398 metres) offers a privileged view of the surrounding landscape and is one of the highlights of this trail in the Serra de Sicó. The final descent passes the dolina, which holds water all year round, before returning to the village of Poios.
Route length: 9 kilometres
Estimated time: 3 hours
Level of difficulty of the route: 3 (Scale of 1 to 5)
13h00 - Restaurant lunch suggestion
14.30 - Short visit to the village of Redinha
Inhabited since Romanisation, it had its first charter in 1159 by the Order of the Temple. In the 14th century it passed to the Order of Christ, beginning a period of prosperity that ended with the French invasions. Today it is one of the most important parishes in the county's tourism scene
Points of interest: Romanesque bridge, pillory and parish church
15.30 - Short visit to the Anços water holes
Olhos de Água do Anços is a naturally beautiful karst spring located between Arrancada and Anços, in the parish of Redinha, in Pombal. It is the main outcrop of the limestone massif of the Serra do Sicó, forming the Anços River. This spot is popular for bathing, with its crystal-clear waters, and is a place of great environmental value.
