Event Description

At this event we'll get to know the Monastery of São Vicente de Fora. We'll also use the rest of the afternoon for a pleasant stroll around the neighbouring areas, highlighting the tangle of narrow streets, staircases and some of Alfama's emblematic monuments and viewpoints.

Monastery of St Vincent de Fora:

Beginning its construction at the end of the 16th century, in the midst of the Philippine period, the Monastery of São Vicente de Fora is one of the most beautiful examples of Mannerist architecture in Lisbon, due to its unrivalled scale and dimensions, as well as its interior spaces and the history they contain. Currently the seat of the Lisbon Patriarchate, it houses the Museum of the Diocese of Lisbon with its exhibition of the Patriarchs. You can also visit the Pantheon of the Patriarchs and the Royal House of Bragança. With a vast collection of tiles, the museum centre with La Fontaine's Fables stands out. From the highest point of the complex you can enjoy one of the most beautiful views over the city and the River Tagus. Be amazed as you discover this magnificent monument.
