Event Description
The walk starts at the Rio da Mula Dam, climbing to the top of Penedo do Carrasco via a series of challenging trails that cross the Tapada do Saldanha. It then heads towards Estrada dos Capuchos and from there to the Mosqueiros Lagoon. You'll then head towards the surroundings of Alto das 3 Cruzes, passing Quinta da Tapada and following the Caminho do Rio da Mata, through which you'll finally reach Alto das 3 Cruzes. You'll then head to the vicinity of the Capuchos Convent and from there to the access trail to the Pontes path, after which you'll circle the dam on the opposite flank to the start of the walk. Another event not to be missed!
Mule River Dam
This dam was designed in 1963 by engineer Ressano Garcia and built by Cascais Municipal Council in 1969 to supply water to the municipality. It has a support wall 18 metres high and 192 metres wide, a flooded area of 45,000 m2 and a capacity to store 23,000,000 m3 of water.
Capuchin Convent
The Capuchos Convent was inhabited by friars of the Order of St Francis. The Franciscans were characterised by defending and living a life devoid of luxury, and the convent reflects this way of life through its location in a forest, its simple architecture, its size and its cork ornamentation. Inside, the rooms are very small, with low doors, tight corridors, several stone staircases, but everything is always very narrow and small.
