Event Description
This walk starts next to the Malveira da Serra Primary School and, after walking through some of the village's narrow streets, heads towards the beautiful Atlantic coast, with its breathtaking landscapes. Beforehand, however, we'll pass along the trails that are so characteristic of this part of the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park. Then we'll return to the hillside and the magnificent Peninha Sanctuary, which offers a view of the Cascais coast, Cabo Raso and beaches such as Guincho and Abano. At the end we'll descend back to our starting point.
Grota Beach or Cove
Praia da Grota is located in a small cove surrounded by a cliff. Down below, there is a small sandy beach, flanked and interspersed with many pebbles and cobbles. Swimmers are advised to exercise caution due to the many submerged rocks. On this beach, in times of higher rainfall, it is possible to see a waterfall produced by the flow of the Ribeira da Grota.
Little feather
The Peninha site, in the middle of the Syenitic centre of the Sintra eruptive massif and a place of worship, shows signs of human permanence since the Neolithic period. It includes a group of buildings classified as a Property of Public Interest.
The Chapel of Our Lady of Peninha, built out of popular devotion, according to the legend of Our Lady's apparition to a mute and very poor shepherdess from Almoinhas Velhas.
The Chapel of St Saturninus, built in the 16th-17th century, is a place of worship dating back to Visigoth times. To the west of the monument there is evidence of the foundations of the primitive hermitage of probable medieval origin (12th century). A mansion built in 1918 by António Carvalho Monteiro for his residence
