Event Description

This walk will take us along one of the most beautiful bathing areas in the West of Portugal, from Praia Azul to Praia do Navio, very close to Porto Novo, passing by the beautiful beaches of Santa Cruz and Formosa, using rural paths and trails along the cliffs by the sea. Another event not to be missed!

The Blue Beach

Just past the mouth of the River Sizandro, in a south-north direction, is Praia Azul. The long sandy beach and its dunes characterise this beach, which is ideal for surfers and bodyboarders in winter and has calmer waters in summer. It is located between high cliffs to the north and the River Sizandro to the south.

Praia Formosa

Praia Formosa is located in the southern part of Santa Cruz, at the beginning of the climb up Avenida do Alto da Vela and bordered to the south by Praia da Amoeira and to the north by Praia do Guincho. It's an urban seaside beach, with rocks near the Crocodiles Ramp, a sea without strong currents and over a hundred metres of fine white sand. Next to the Crocodile Ramp, when the tide rises, a natural swimming pool is formed, suitable for children to swim in. Forming a small, cosy bay surrounded by steep cliffs, it is a very sheltered beach that protects bathers from the cold northerlies, making this beach popular in all seasons.

Tower of Santa Cruz

“Once upon a time there was a very rich man who was in love with a beautiful girl. His beloved worked near his estate, but as the land was separated by very high walls, he couldn't see her. So he had a tower built so that he could see her whenever he wanted. That beautiful tower still exists today.”
