Walking in the Wonders of Espichel - Lagosteiros, Lapa Colorida and Baleeira

Get ready for a unique adventure on the Espichel Wonders Walk - Praia da Baleeira and Lapa Colorida. This stunning route starts at Cabo Espichel, a place steeped in history and natural beauty, where the cliffs meet the ocean, creating a breathtaking landscape. Another event not to be missed, just right for keen walkers.

From there, we head towards Praia dos Lagosteiros. Known for its impressive rock formations and dinosaur fossils. Praia dos Lagosteiros is the perfect combination of sea, rocks and history, making it an unmissable point of interest. Our route continues towards the fascinating Lapa Colorida, a true geological treasure. This impressive site is known for its multicoloured formations, which create a vibrant and unique palette. Here, nature shows us its most artistic side, with colours and shapes that enchant. Finally, our last stop will be the enchanting Praia da Baleeira. This little hidden paradise offers a peaceful haven with its crystal-clear waters, ideal for an invigorating break.

Cape Espichel Sanctuary:

From the cult of Our Lady of the Cape and the four-century Ermida da Memória, in the 18th century by order of King Pedro II and King José, a sanctuary was built that would continue to be worshipped until the transition from the 19th to the 20th century, when it went into decline.
The sanctuary includes the church, built between 1701 and 1707 in the ground floor style, two wings of guest houses built after 1715 and extended between 1745 and 1760, the water house dating from 1770 and supplied by an aqueduct, and the opera house from the late 1800s.

Baleeira Beach:

Protected by the Fort of São Domingos da Baralha, Praia da Baleeira is a small pebble beach that once served as a harbour for small fishing boats, and you can still see the ruins of buildings at the entrance to the beach. High, steep slopes protect the still, transparent waters to the north. Using a simple snorkel and mask, you'll be able to see Sargos and Octopuses, which are abundant in this cove.

Colourful cave:

The Colourful Cave is extremely beautiful, next to the sea and of natural origin. This cave consists of the arrangement of sedimentary rocks in overlapping layers / strata, which are different in nature. The layers / strata observed there differ in mineralogical composition, grain size and colour, which ultimately gave this cave its name.
