Event Description
In this proposed activity we will walk the "famous" Tunnels Route, between the station of "La Fregeneda" and Barca d'Alva, on a 17-kilometre route, through 20 tunnels and over 8 bridges, all accompanied by the beautiful landscapes of Beira Interior and the river Águeda. On the first day we'll also go for a walk and visit the Historical Village of Castelo Rodrigo. This weekend we will of course have the opportunity to sample the best flavours of the local cuisine. Come and join us!

Walking the Convent Trail
On this walk we'll follow medieval paths in the area of the Historical Village of Castelo Rodrigo. We'll set off from the village in the direction of Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo, with the first obligatory stop being the Convent of Santa Maria de Aguiar. On the way back, we'll pass the Fonte dos Pretos (Black Fountain) and use some of the paths within the walls of the medieval town of Figueira, thus completing this 11 kilometre walk that crosses several periods in our history.
Points of interest: Historical Village of Castelo Rodrigo, Medieval Cistern, Manueline Window, Pillory, Clock Tower, Convent of Santa Maria de Aguiar, medieval roads, Chafariz dos Pretos, etc.

Walking the Tunnels Route - La Fregeneda / Barca D'Alva - 17kms
Our walk will take place on what is now known as the "Route of the Tunnels", which was once the railway line linking Barca d'Alva to La Fregeneda (Spain). The old Douro Line ended at Barca d'Alva, but the railway line continued towards Spain and went as far as Paris. This line was built in 1887 by Eiffel's disciples and ran for almost a century, only closing in 1985. The route between Fregeneda and Barca d'ALva is 17 kilometres long, has 20 tunnels and 8 bridges, and the whole way is accompanied by the beautiful landscapes of Beira Interior and the river Águeda. In the past, the bridges had to be crossed using a metal beam attached to a handrail, but now the bridges have been renovated with wooden walkways that make it much easier to cross them in complete safety.

Nesta proposta de atividade iremos percorrer algumas das mais belas paisagens do Parque Natural do Douro Internacional, em Trás-os-Montes, onde impera a tranquilidade e nos sentimos pequenos perante a natureza agreste e bela das arribas do Douro, sem esquecer a excelente gastronomia da região. De Miranda do Douro a Mogadouro, das aldeias, e miradouros, é tempo de apreciar e contemplar esta região! Faremos ainda um Passeio até ao Vimioso, visitamos o Centro Interpretativo das Minas de Argozelo, e conheceremos uma Ponte Metálica Suspensa de 35 metro de comprimentos. This is a linear route with a circular final section that allows you to visit the Cigadonha Hillfort. The whole route has a good natural setting and stunning views over the River Douro. This settlement from the 1st millennium BC occupies an extensive platform with steep cliffs overlooking the River Douro, where birds nest. The wall shows a large field of stones set with the end facing upwards, like sharp razors, defending the settlement's gateway.

Points of interest: Paradela village, Penha das Torres viewpoint and Douro river cliffs
The route starts in the village of Paradela and follows rural paths to the Paradela viewpoint (Penha das Torres) overlooking the Spanish Castro dam. This is one of the most representative landscapes in the Douro International Valley, with the viewpoints located on the edge of a river canyon that locally consists of a gorge with vertical walls of over 150 metres.

A Ponte dos Mineiros, uma ponte suspensa pênsil, metálica, sobre o rio Sabor, foi construída em 1956 e diariamente utilizada por centenas de pessoas que trabalhavam em outras minas da região, nomeadamente as minas da Ribeira, na freguesia de Coelhoso. É uma ponte estreita com 35 metros de comprimento, suspensa a uma altura de 10 metros sobre o leito do rio. Foi recuperada em 2002 pela população local em memória d atividade mineira na região.

EVENT DESCRIPTION: “Walking in Gerês - Melgaço - Serra da Peneda - Aldeia das Pontes - Castro Laboreiro - Lamas de Mouro, Lindoso and Pozas de Mallón”
In this activity proposal, we're going to hike and visit some of the most fabulous places in the Peneda-Gerês National Park, especially Castro Laboreiro, Aldeia das Pontes, Melgaço, Lamas de Mouro, Lindoso and Pozas de Mallón, in what will be a long weekend full of strong emotions and landscapes to remember for a long time. Castro Laboreiro
The village of Castro Laboreiro belongs to the municipality of Melgaço and is located in the Peneda-Gerês National Park. It has one of the richest prehistoric heritages in the country, including engravings and cave paintings, 120 Dolmen (dating back 5000 years) and Cists (megalithic funerary monuments). This village has a rich historical and architectural heritage, including the Castro Laboreiro Castle - classified as a national monument, the Castro Laboreiro Mother Church, the Castro Laboreiro Pillory, dating from the 16th century and classified as a building of public interest; medieval churches, community ovens, granaries and mills.

This route takes place in the heart of the Serra da Peneda, between two mountain villages: the village of Peneda and Branda de Bouças dos Homens. Then we'll come to a dam that used to serve a mini hydroelectric power station years ago and supplied electricity to the village of Peneda. Crossing the lake, we follow a stream and the descent becomes a real and intrepid adventure due to the steep slopes of the terrain until we reach the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Peneda again.
