Fermentelos Pateira Route“ Walk”
Known as Pateira de Fermentelos, this is the largest natural lagoon on the Iberian Peninsula. It is a sensitive area and an important NATURA 2000 wetland. It contains habitats, ecosystems and species with national and international protection status. It is in the lagoon that the visitor encounters the natural space and its biophysical components, and it is here that the desire to visit arises. The Pateira is one of Europe's richest ecosystems, with a wide variety of fish and birds, some of them permanent, others seasonal, which see this lagoon as one of their last refuges in a Europe where large habitats are reminders of a distant past. It is against this idyllic backdrop, painted in watercolours, where the sky is reflected in the calm waters of the lagoon and where the sun brushes the horizon in shades of red, that we will walk and enjoy all the surrounding beauty.

GRUPO MÁXIMO DE 8 PASSAGEIROS
O Rio Mira
O principal afluente do rio Mira é a ribeira do Torgal.

Albarquel Fort
The Albarquel Fort corresponds to the paradigm of Portuguese 17th century military architecture of the period. It is a fortified construction with a trapezoidal plan and a two-storey building. This building also had a small bastion at the south-east apex and a sentry box to the south.
The fort is in the “floor style”, which is characterised by its lack of decoration, a sober and imposing type of military construction. Of the building's few adornments, the friezes, entablatures, gargoyles and the detail of the exterior staircase stand out.

There's also time for a visit to the town of Penela, where we'll visit its castle, a national monument, and a walk in Figueiró dos Vinhos, where we'll visit Malhoa's "Cocoon". Come and join us for another event not to be missed!

Pedra Ferida Waterfall and Louçainha Beach
The trail runs through the Serra do Espinhal in a valley where the Azenha stream flows, where we'll find the admirable Pedra Ferida waterfall, almost 25 metres high, which forms a delightful natural pool. And if the waterfall is enchanting, the trail that leads to it is enthralling. Along the Ribeira da Azenha, we are treated to lush vegetation, the omnipresent sound of running water, small pools of water, wooden bridges and old watermills. There's even a picnic area where you can enjoy a picnic surrounded by nature. A real enchanted forest to savour slowly.
Praia Fluvial da Louçainha is a small paradise in the municipality of Penela. This refuge is in the middle of the dense Serra do Espinhal. It takes advantage of the naturalness of the Azenha stream due to the construction of several dams with different depths. This place is very popular in the region due to the surrounding landscape, which conveys tranquillity due to the perfect union of the green of the mountains with the crystalline freshness of the waters
1pm - Picnic lunch suggestion (up to each participant)
15h30- Tour of Penela (Castle, Mother Church, Pillory, etc.)
The military occupation of the hill where Penela is located is very old, dating back at least to the Romans, who guarded the Mérida-Conímbriga-Braga road from here. Invaded by the Arabs in 716, it was retaken in the 11th century by Count Sesnando, the first governor of Coimbra. The count had a strong castle built on the site of the alcazaba, which he repopulated, thus creating a Christian town under the protection of the crenellated walls. Graves carved into the rock with anthropomorphic designs remain from this settlement. Its construction dates back to the 11th century, although what can be seen of the castle today only dates back to the 14th and 15th centuries. Inside is the Church of St Michael, whose earliest origins date back to the 12th century. Penela Castle is a National Monument.
17h30- Walk in Figueiró dos Vinhos
6pm - Hotel check-in
8pm - Suggested Group Dinner

- River Beach
- Ribeira de Alge

- Natural landscapes
Distance: 10 kilometres
Difficulty: 3.5 (Scale from 1 to 5, 1 being the easiest)
Estimated duration: 3h30m
Casal de São Simão Schist Trail
This walk takes place on the walkways of the Fragas de São Simão, visits the schist village of Casal de São Simão and runs along the idyllic banks of the Ribeira de Alge and Fato, where the old watermills still shine, and through the quiet villages of Além da Ribeira, Ponte do Brás Curado and Saondam as well as the river beach of the Fragas de São Simão.
Fragas do Casal de São Simão walkways
The Fragas de São Simão walkway is approximately 2 kilometres long and connects the Schist Village of Casal de São Simão to the lofty Fragas de São Simão viewpoint, passing by the stunning Fragas de São Simão River Beach.
Part of the "Peniche Peninsula" geosite, which is a limestone platform that has been eroded by wind, rain and the sea, you can see the beautiful shapes that erosion has created, forming a lapiás.
Casal de São Simão River Beach
The beach is a 15-minute walk (along the footpath) from the village of Casal de São Simão. The water of the Ribeira de Alge, which passes by on its way to the Zêzere, is so clear that you can see the small stones inside.
The abundance of laurel trees and cork oaks gives the air a comforting fragrance and the green of the surrounding hills, which lead to the Lousã mountain range, envelop us in beautiful scenery. The river beach is located between two imposing crags, where climbing is practised with various equipped routes, abseiling and slides. The "smaller" rocks are used as a solarium or diving board. Walking south, next to the beach, you'll find several levadas and cloaks of the region's original flora.
Schist Village of Casal de São Simão
A small village with practically a single street, essentially built from quartzite. It is located on one of the flanks of the quartzite ridge that gives rise to the Fragas de São Simão and has the oldest church in the municipality of Figueiró dos Vinhos. The village stretches along a ridge almost parallel to the course of the Ribeira de Alge. The entrance is at the highest point and the village ends where the slopes have made it difficult to continue the road.

Event Description
This walk will take us around the Ribafria Garden and Quinta, as well as its more rural surroundings, with sweeping views of the Sintra Mountains. Another event not to be missed!
Ribafria Garden and Farm
The manor house at Quinta de Ribafria was built in 1541 on the Lourel estate by Gaspar Gonçalves, to whom King Manuel I granted a licence and coat of arms, and is a magnificent example of Manueline civil architecture.
Of the imposing building, the highlight is a 17th-century tower, which, according to legend, was built "so that the owner of Ribafria could see Penha Verde from there, which belonged to him as a descendant of the founder D. João de Castro". On the west side is the Ribafria coat of arms carved in stone, and in the gardens there is a large pond, in whose waters you can see the façade of the building and a magnificent cistern, with a vast room with its stonework vault supported by arches and columns of eternal solidity.
After being abandoned for several years, Quinta da Ribafria opened its doors on 1 May 2015. Since then, it has been offering all visitors who want to visit it a variety of cultural, sporting and recreational events that combine culture and the outdoors. But it's also well worth taking a stroll through its gardens and discovering yet another magnificent green space so close to Sintra and Lisbon.

Pirin National Park
Pirin National Park was established to protect biodiversity on Bulgaria's second highest mountain, an area considered to be one of the best-preserved natural habitats in Europe. The park covers more than 403 square kilometres (about 156 square miles) and boasts breathtaking landscapes, ranging from barren rocky peaks and lush forests to glacial lakes and pristine rivers. It is home to numerous endangered species of flora and fauna, such as the golden eagle, the brown bear and the mountain goat.
Rila National Park
The name Rila is of Thracian origin, meaning “well-watered mountain”, due to the abundance of glacial lakes (around 200) and hot springs. Some of the longest and deepest rivers originating in Rila include the Maritsa, the Iskar and the Mesta. Rila is a mountain range with the highest mountains in Bulgaria, in the south-west of the country and one of the highest in the Balkan region. Its highest peak is Musala at 2925 metres. Most of the mountain is occupied by the Rila National Park (created in February 1992 to protect various ecosystems of national importance). The mountain is known worldwide for its 7 lakes and culturally famous for the Rila Monastery.
Rila Monastery
Founded in the 10th century, the Rila Monastery is the largest architectural ensemble of the Orthodox Church in Bulgaria. The monastery is the largest architectural ensemble of the Orthodox Church in Bulgaria. It is considered a masterpiece of the Bulgarian National Revival, a style typical of the early 19th century, when the monastery was rebuilt after a fire.
The monastery was founded by St John of Rila. The house and tomb of the saint considered to be the patron saint of Bulgaria became a holy place and today houses seven monks. The Bulgarian monastery has one of the largest monastic libraries in the Balkans with over 60,000 works. The Rila Monastery library contains unique, rare and extremely precious books from the 10th century to the present day.
Sofia
Sofia is one of Europe's oldest capitals, its history dating back to the 8th century BC, when the Thracians established a settlement in the region. Sofia has had several names in different periods of its existence, and today you can see reminiscences of the city's millennia-old history alongside modern tourist attractions. A number of rivers run through the city, including the Vladaya and the Perlovska. The upper reaches of the Iskar River run through the east of Sofia. The city is known for its numerous springs and thermal waters. Dams and artificial lakes were built in the last century.
The Alexander Nevsky Cathedral was built in the neo-Byzantine style and is one of Sofia's trade marks. Built in honour of St Alexander Nevsky - and once one of the largest Orthodox churches in Europe - the cathedral is an important symbol of Bulgaria's past. The temple was built in honour of the Russian emperor Alexander II, also known as Tsar - “the liberator”, whose army freed Bulgaria from Ottoman rule in 1878. The reflection of the golden domes attracts attention, but this is a peaceful place to spend a few moments in the city.

Come with us!

TIME: Departure from Lisbon at 9am
REGRESSO: Chegada a Lisboa pelas 18h00
Dia 2 – Shkodra –ThethValley –Shkodra
Embora pareça tentadora, a água aqui é gelada!
Dia 3 – Shkodra–Koman Lake –ValbonaValley
Dia 4 – Valbona
Dia 5 – Valbona–Prizren (Kosovo) –Tirana
À tarde, chegaremos a Tirana.
Dia 8 – Berat –Airport

Event Description
This walk will introduce us to the Cágados Trail, inaugurated in 2020 by a group of three trail enthusiasts. This route in the parish of Vila Chã de Ourique will take us through marvellous landscapes, where we can see the connection between the moorland and the lezíria and which offers us the best that nature has to offer, with very challenging trails. This is a route that should be undertaken by those who already have experience of hiking and in some parts it is recommended to use a walking stick and dexterity for some of the steeper descents. Another event not to be missed!
At the end of the walk, anyone who wants to can join in for a group lunch!
Vila Chã de Ourique
The history of Vila Chã de Ourique is inextricably linked to the Battle of Ourique, which is believed to have taken place in this parish on 25 July 1139, as several historians claim.
When King Afonso Henriques decided to ravage the outskirts of Santarém in 1139, he set up camp near Vale da Pinta, between the town and Chãas de Ourique. The land where the battle took place between the Christian troops and the troops under Esmar's command was called Chãas de Ourique, which belonged for a long time to the House of the Counts of Unhão.
In the charter given by Manuel Pedro Teles to establish the settlement of Casal d'Ourique, or Ouro, it is mentioned that these lands were the wasteland of "Chãs d'Ourique". All this land must have been practically depopulated in the 14th century, with only the ruins of abandoned settlements remaining as a result of the continuous fighting that took place.
The parish was created on 20 January 1907, when it was detached from the parish of Cartaxo. In 1926 it adopted its current name and in 1997 it was elevated to a town. Given the potential of the land in this parish, vineyards and wine production play a fundamental role in the local economy. Vila Chã de Ourique is also home to the municipality's main business area, where around two dozen companies are based.
The parish covers an area of 33.2 square kilometres and has around 3,000 inhabitants.

Route length: 8 kilometres
Estimated time: 3 hours
Level of difficulty of the route: 3 (Scale of 1 to 5)

DATE OF REALISATION: 28, 29, 30 de Novembro e 1 Dezembro 2026
ENROLMENT DEADLINE : 31 August 2026
Casa 21: A pegada britânica
Ferrovia a diesel: 22 km (ida e volta).
Iron Rock: A Mina do Arco-Íris

O Desfiladeiro do Sil
