Event Description
This event combines a pleasant walk through Alcácer do Sal and the rice fields with a boat trip down the River Sado on a galleon. If you prefer, you can do just the walk or the boat trip, or you can choose to do both, getting to know this beautiful area of Alcácer do Sal by land and river. This is certainly another event you don't want to miss!
REGISTRATION FOR THE BOAT TRIP ENDS ON 31 JULY
Walk in Alcácer and the rice fields
This 13-kilometre route takes you along Alcácer do Sal's riverside area, as well as the historic part, with excellent panoramic views over the River Sado. The route passes several vegetable gardens, rice fields, cork oak forests, country lanes, the Senhor dos Mártires Sanctuary, founded in the 13th century, and viewpoints over the surrounding houses and farmland. This is a territory where white storks and different species of herons abound, in a perfect symbiosis between ever-present nature and the presence of humans hundreds of years ago, as attested to by archaeological finds and the Medieval Castle.
Boat trip in Galeão
In the afternoon, all those interested will take a trip along the River Sado. Boarding and disembarking will take place at the municipal pier located on the Passeio do Sado, on the south bank of the river in Alcácer do Sal. As the galleon drops anchor, we'll set off on a relaxing trip, enjoying a landscape full of fauna and flora, very characteristic of this area, where we'll be able to spot flamingos and many other resident species. The Sado River is 180 kilometres long, with a depth of between 8 and 50 metres, and flows into the Sado estuary near the city of Setúbal.
