Event Description
On Father's Day, come and celebrate with our group with a tailor-made walk. Come and discover some of the Forest Park's best trails, some of its most scenic viewpoints and outdoor spaces in the city of Lisbon. Take the opportunity to learn more about Monsanto. Another event not to be missed!
Monsanto Forest Park
The Monsanto Forest Park (PFM), covering more than 900 hectares, is located in the western part of the city of Lisbon, with its highest point at 231 metres above sea level: this is the Serra de Monsanto, which for several millennia has been used as an agricultural area and as a grazing area. The agricultural areas were mainly used to grow cereals, the high production of which was transformed into flour in the 80 or so windmills that once existed in the highest parts of this mountain range. Today it is a diversified forest, home to various sports, cultural and leisure facilities. There are also several viewpoints. The Monsanto Forest Park (Montes Claros, Moinhos do Mocho, among others) offers amazing views of different elements of the Lisbon landscape and the whole park can be visited on foot, by bicycle or on horseback along the numerous trails and paths. Although the Monsanto forest was artificially planted, the current flora also includes many species that have arisen naturally. You can find trees such as oaks, cork oaks, holm oaks, stone pines, among others, and various shrubs such as strawberry trees and hawthorns. This floristic diversity and the complexity of the habitat are favourable to the occurrence of a large number of animal species that find refuge, food and breeding grounds here. In addition to birds, there are also mammals, reptiles, amphibians, fish and countless invertebrates.
