Event details

Event Description

This walk organised by Caminhando will take you on a circular route to and from Bucelas, the capital of Arinto. The route includes a climb up Monte Serves, via the Trail of a Thousand and One Stones, passing by the Chapel of Santa Eulália, Mata do Paraíso, with its fantastic trails, and the Ribeira da Fonte Santa, where the waterfalls stand out. Then we'll head up towards MARL's photovoltaic solar power station and the wind farms, and then down a Mediterranean woodland trail to the riverside path of the River Trancão, which will take us back to our starting point. Another event not to be missed!

Paradise Forest

Mata do Paraíso is located between Vialonga and Santa Eulália, and is part of the municipality of Vila Franca de Xira. It is a large area of woodland made up mainly of the following tree species: stone pine, wild olive, lodgepole pine and other tree species characteristic of the Mediterranean flora. Just as Monsanto is for Lisbon, Mata do Paraíso is a veritable green lung for the entire surrounding area, crossed north-south by the Ribeira da Fonte Santa, a town very close to the site.

Trancão River

The Trancão river is made up of numerous tributaries, most notably the Loures river, which runs from west to east, but also the Romeiras and Boição streams and the Pequeno river to the north, and the Mocho and Prior Velho streams to the south. The main tributaries of the Loures river are the Pinheiro de Loures stream, the Póvoa stream, the Lousa stream and the Fanhões stream.

Bucelas (Parish Church)

The Church of Nossa Senhora da Purificação or Igreja Matriz de Bucelas is located in the centre of the town of Bucelas in the municipality of Loures. Built in the 16th century, its value is emphasised by the baroque decoration of its interior, which includes a sculpture of the Holy Trinity, the mother of Christ and the 12 apostles.
