This proposed walk takes place in Arraiolos, taking in all the beauty of the surrounding area and the historical part of this land full of tradition. We'd like to highlight the ecotrailway, the Oleirita dam and all the cork oak forests characteristic of this region. Another event not to be missed!

Arraiolos

In a hue of relief points resulting from fragile deformation, escarpments, pits and plateaus. Between the plateau of Sempre Noiva and the hills of Arraiolos (the plateaus of Oleira and Mouzinho), there is an abundance of greenery and fauna, which stretches out in a patch of colour dotted with varied lithologies. A scenario in which a geometric fringe of morphological accidents limits a route through a playful carpet of biological diversity that invites discovery and enjoyment.

On this route, on the section that coincides with the Arraiolos Ecotrailway, next to a majestic Freixo, you should stop to admire the unique beauty of Arraiolos Castle from afar. Also worth a look is the old Arraiolos railway station, built around 1910 and closed in 1987. At Ilhas, a settlement less than 2 kilometres from the town of Arraiolos, you can enjoy a landscape that opens up before your eyes, the vast plain that stretches as far as the Serra d'Ossa.

In the town of Arraiolos you can see the Castle of Arraiolos, which dates back to the Middle Ages, the 16th-century Church of Misericórdia and the Convent of the Lóios, as well as the 19th-century Stone Fountain, not forgetting the Arraiolos carpets, the rehabilitated historic centre and the views of the Holm and Cork Oak forests.
