Event Description

This walk organised by Caminhando will take a circular route from and to Praia da Consolação. Our route will take us along the coast to Vale Pombas Beach, the border between the districts of Leiria and Lisbon, with breathtaking views of the Berlengas Islands on the horizon and the Peniche peninsula. Another event not to be missed!

Praia da Consolação Fort

Located next to Consolação beach, it was built in the mid-17th century to reinforce the defence of Peniche cove. It has four triangular bastions and five platforms where the fire hydrants are arranged, with access to the interior via a bridge. Over the years, and especially after the 1755 earthquake, it has undergone renovations, but has always retained its original Mannerist structure.

São Bernardino Beach

Praia de São Bernardino Beach has a reasonably sized sandy beach. It is located in a small cove on the seafront of the village of San Bernardino. The waters are generally calm. There are rocks in the bathing area only at the ends of the beach. Access is via the Beach Street which ends in the north, or the long staircase in the centre.
