EVENT DESCRIPTION: “Walking the Beech Route and Mondego Walkways”

In this activity proposal from Caminhando, we'll go on a magnificent hike in the famous Beech Woods, which are at their most beautiful only at this time of year! We'll also take the opportunity to walk along the recently inaugurated Mondego Walkways, 12 kilometres long, with three suspension bridges, waterfalls and a unique landscape in the Mondego River Valley, between the Caldeirão Dam and Videmonte. There will also be time to visit the city of Guarda. We'll also stay in a 4-star hotel.

These will be some of the most important places we'll visit along the various hikes:

TIME: Departure from Lisbon at 7am
RETURN: Arrival in Lisbon at 7.30pm

Beech Route

“Its name comes from the fact that this trail plunges deep into a dense beech forest, planted by the Manteigas Forestry Services at the beginning of the 20th century.” “On the slopes of São Lourenço is perhaps the largest beech forest on the Iberian Peninsula. It has a unique charm due to its golden colours in autumn and its lush greenery in spring/summer. An imposing and irreverent source of nature that thrills with its beauty”. If you want to feel all the magic of autumn, this is the trail you should take soon, before the landscape changes again with the arrival of winter.

Tour of Guarda

Located on one of the slopes of the Serra da Estrela mountain range, it is the highest city in the country at 1056 metres. This has made it a natural battleground since prehistoric times, ideal for the settlement of the Castro populations and later the Romans. On our tour we'll take the opportunity to walk around the historic centre and climb the Castle Tower, from where we'll have a panoramic view of the surrounding area.

9.30am - Walk "Mondego River Walkways"

The most beautiful walkways in the country are in Guarda! With a path along the banks of the River Mondego and its tributaries of around 12 kilometres, the route begins near the Caldeirão Dam, then extends through the valley, through the towns of Pêro Soares, Mizarela, Vila Soeiro, Trinta and ends in the mountains at Videmonte.
