EVENT: Hiking in Serra da Estrela (Glacier Valley, Lagoons, Covões and Cântaros)

EVENT DESCRIPTION: "Walking in Serra da Estrela - Glacier Valley, Lagoons, Covões and Cântaros"

In this activity proposal, we will walk and visit some of the most fabulous places in Serra da Estrela. From Manteigas to Torre, via Penhas da Saúde, without forgetting Covão do Ferro or Senhora da Boa Estrela, this will be a long weekend full of strong emotions and landscapes to remember for a long time. Come with us!

These will be some of the most important places we'll visit along the various hikes:

• Penhas da Saúde
• Viriato Lake
• St Anthony's Nave
• Covão do Ferro
• Lady of the Good Star
• Covão do Boi
• Tower / Tower Chapel
• Covão Cimeiro, Cântaro Magro and Cântaro Gordo
• Hell's Pit
• Natural landscapes

TIME: Departure from Lisbon at 6.30am on 5th October
RETURN: Arrival in Lisbon at 7.30pm on 7 October

Lady of the Good Star

Located in Covão do Boi, in the heart of the Serra da Estrela, the Senhora da Boa Estrela, patron saint of shepherds, is carved in low relief in the rock and was inaugurated in 1946.

The sculpture, which is more than 7 metres high, was created by António Duarte, based on an idea from the local parish priest who witnessed the local demonstration of faith when a cross was set up at the highest point of the immense Serra da Estrela, and wished to pay homage to the patron saint of shepherds who have faced the harsh weather of the region for centuries.

Every year, on the second Sunday in August, the Festivities of Our Lady of the Good Star of Covão do Boi are held, attracting many visitors.

Walk: "From Viriato Lake to the Tower Chapel"

Level of difficulty of the route: 3+ (Scale from 1 to 5)

Route length: 8 kilometres

Estimated duration: 3h30m

6th October (Saturday)

Walk: "Walking between Cântaros and Covões"

Level of difficulty of the route: 3+ (Scale from 1 to 5)

Route length: 7 kilometres

Estimated duration: 3h30m

7th October (Sunday)

Walk: "Walking the Poço do Inferno Route"

Level of difficulty of the route: 3++ (Scale from 1 to 5)

Route length: 11 kilometres

Estimated time: 4 hours

3pm - End of activity and return to Lisbon

Equipment: Footwear and clothing suitable for hiking
