This activity proposal aims to provide a weekend in the Serra do Marão, with enchanting scenery, rivers, bridges, levadas and sweeping views over the region of Amarante and the Serra da Aboboreira. We'll also take a pleasant stroll in Amarante, along the banks of the River Tâmega, enjoying the magnificent scenery and the historic area, especially the São Gonçalo Bridge and Convent. Serra do Marão

The variety of fauna and flora is great and the beauty of the landscapes even greater. It's on this short route that you'll come across the mountain sites of Eido, Peso and Coval, the tin and tungsten mines of Ramalhoso or a panoramic view of the waters of the Marão. There are many points of interest. And travelling the route is a real adventure, so diverse is the type of spaces crossed: there you'll come across old cobbled paths, dirt tracks or forest - where you'll see carqueja and heather bushes or conifers. Haystacks, mills and rustic bridges also promise to delight the eye of walkers on a route full of surprises.

Hiking in the Serra do Marão: Ribeira da Póvoa

The “Marão Has Blue Blood” walk takes you to the heart of the Serra do Marão, one of Portugal's most authentic and beautiful areas. Along the way, you'll discover old water mills that still remind us of a time when rural life was marked by simplicity and hard work. These mills, silent but full of stories, are an invitation to travel back in time, while the surrounding nature continues to write its own history.

The Ribeira da Póvoa, which runs alongside this trail, is a place of rare beauty. Classified as a Special Area of Conservation, it forms part of one of Europe's largest protected natural spaces, the Natura 2000 Network. The biodiversity of the region is simply stunning, with a variety of fauna and flora that intertwine, creating a veritable mosaic of wildlife. Some of the species that inhabit this area are rare and threatened, which makes the place even more special and worthy of preservation.

As you walk along the trail, you'll feel enveloped by the tranquillity of the surroundings, with the gentle sound of water and birdsong accompanying you. This is the kind of place where time seems to stand still, allowing you to disconnect from routine and reconnect with nature. What's more, the landscape that unfolds in front of you is uniquely beautiful, with views that will surprise you at every turn.
