Event Description
This walk starts in front of the picnic area and sports centre of Casmilo - Furadouro - Condeixa a Nova, and goes through the Serra do Sicó, the village and Lagoa do Casmilo to the famous “holes of Casmilo”. Another event not to be missed!
Casmilo holes:
There will be 12 kilometres on this circular route, which will take us along paths dominated by landscapes dominated by the sharp-edged stones so typical of the Sicó Massif, which draws this very harsh landscape, and which over the ages has shaped the way of life of the people of these parts, and where stone and man stand firm against the wear and tear of time.
We'll walk from the picturesque village of Casmilo, nestled in the foothills of the Serra do Circulo, past the Lagoa do Casmilo, to the village of Chanca in the neighbouring municipality of Penela, where we'll be treated to a fabulous view of the Rabaçal Valley, where the Romans once built their villages, and the neighbouring, soaring Espinhal and Lousã mountains.
We'll then walk between stone walls at the foot of the Rabaçal Wind Farm until we reach the fabulous Casmilo Hole Valley, where we'll be able to appreciate this impressive geological phenomenon. Due to their magnificence, it's said that the holes are the “mouths of the mountains”. We'll be able to enter some of them and see all their grandeur, as well as walk through the Covões Valley, before passing through fields of lapiaz, authentic “stone cemeteries” and dolines that will take us back to where we started.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Routes near the potholes with technical parts and more exposed parts, but of low difficulty, although there are small sections with some risk of falls if the ground is slippery, especially on the descents and if it is raining or has rained.
It is therefore compulsory to wear suitable footwear with good grip.
Sticks can also be a good help on exposed parts, especially if the weather is rainy.
Don't forget to bring a packed lunch, warm clothes and plenty of water.
There is no chance of refuelling along the route.
