This proposed hike starts near the Termas dos Cucos, in Torres Vedras, allowing you to enjoy excellent panoramic views of this western part of our country. We'll hike through the Serra and Termas dos Cucos, with the River Sizandro by our side, crossing rural paths and trails of great beauty, especially the Azenhas do Cabaço and Boiaca. We'll have the chance to climb up to Moinho do Gaio and see traces of dinosaur footprints, on a walk that promises a lot of joy and fantastic corners of the area to discover.

Cuckoo Spa

Termas dos Cucos is located on the outskirts of Torres Vedras, 2 kilometres from the city, next to National Road 9, on the way to Runa.

The use of the waters and sludge of the Cucos began in 1746, but it wasn't until 1866 that a Commission was appointed to carry out preliminary studies on the Mineral Waters of the Kingdom, which included the Cucos springs.

Two decades later, the first train on the Oeste line arrived in Torres Vedras and plans were made to build a spa complex.

A reminder of a time when thermalism was making a name for itself all over Europe, the Cucos Thermal Baths reveal to us the romantic scenery of the late 19th century. Although they are currently closed, visiting them is like travelling back in time to 1893, the year of the architectural complex comprising the spa, "Buvette", Hotel, "Challets" and Casino.

The atmosphere is dominated by the play of light that creeps in between columns, balconies and balustrades, reflecting off the garden pond, between palm trees and other large trees.
