DESCRIPTION OF THE EVENT: Weekend in the Alvão Natural Park Fisgas de Ermelo, Aldeias do Alvão and Pena Aventura Park (Fantastic Cable - the biggest in the world - Slide and Alpine Coaster)

In this activity proposal, we'll hike and visit some of the most fabulous places in the Alvão Natural Park, with special emphasis on hiking in the fantastic Fisgas de Ermelo, in the villages of Lamas de Olo and Barreiro, as well as visiting Vila Real and Mondim de Basto. To get the adrenaline pumping, we'll have a morning in the Ribeira de Pena environmental park, where the more adventurous can try the Fantastic Cable - the biggest in the world - Slide or the Alpine Coaster. This will certainly be a long weekend full of thrills and landscapes to remember for a long time. And of course, we'll also have the opportunity to sample the best of the region's gastronomy. Saturday 11th June

Walk: "Villages and the Alvão dam”

Alvão villages and dams

Lamas d'Olo, a village in the municipality of Vila Real, is a jewel in the centre of the Alvão Natural Park. As soon as you arrive, you can see the granite houses, many of which still have thatched roofs. The strong rural image of these old houses is complemented by the canastros scattered around the village, which are well worth a visit. In addition to the Alvão Natural Park that surrounds it, Lamas d'Olo is surrounded by lameiros and cultivated fields with their own characteristics. Let yourself be enchanted by this example of rural Portugal and observe the practice of irrigation, which allows grazing all year round. Even today, in fact, animals play an important role in this land, and shepherding is a common activity.

This morning we will have a programme of the participant's choice. The options are

• Walk starting at the Ribeira de Pena Environmental Park (Aventura Pena Park)
• Walk in the Environmental Park
• Adventure Pack (with Fantastic Cable - the world's biggest - Slide and Alpine Coaster) - If you want to do any of these activities we have promotional prices.

Fisgas de Ermelo

This cascade is one of the largest waterfalls in Portugal and one of the largest in Europe. It doesn't plunge vertically, but rather through a large barrier of quartzite forming a deep terrace. Its waters separate the granite and schist areas of the surrounding land. The height of this waterfall is 200 metres long, carved out over the millennia of its existence by the calm but persevering waters of the River Olo, which rises in the Alvão Natural Park. Before the waterfalls, there are crystal-clear lagoons upstream that are often used during the summer holidays.
