Event details

Event Description

On this proposed walk, we'll set off from Cacilhas Quay, walk past the oldest houses in the area, cross Almada, and from there to Parque da Paz, the city's true green lung, will be a short step. Then we'll set off towards the centre of Pragal and on to Cristo-Rei, so as not to lose sight of the excellent panoramas, with the Tagus as our inseparable companion along the way.

Peace Park
Surrounded by the urban fabric of the city of Almada, Parque da Paz is a leisure space that appeals to the quietness of the senses. In its 60 hectares of extensive lawns and paths that wind around an artificial lake where swans glide on the water's surface, this park was born out of the intention to recover an urban tradition that defines Almada as a city. Considered the city's great lung, this park was conceived with the mission of allowing the population to enjoy a large space, while also functioning as the ideal place for the emergence of a fauna and flora of great beauty. Spruces, pines, olive trees and cypresses are some of the elements that make up the 114 species of trees, shrubs and herbaceous flora in the Parque da Paz.
In this place of soft sensations, you can see fungi and lichens growing in some nooks and crannies in the grass or trunks, where sometimes wild rabbits and blackbirds peek out at those walking along the edge of the lawn.
For those who enjoy contact with water, the lake of swans and mallards is the ideal place to find peace of mind.

River garden
It has been restored by the local authority, where the whir of the wind and the rush of the water can be heard in this space, where once there were scuffles between the watermen and the inhabitants when water was scarce in the urban centre. Dom João V ordered the erection of a fountain at this spring (1736), which supplied the ships of the Discoveries.

Christ the King
At 223 metres above the sea, it offers a 360º panoramic view of the Tagus estuary and both banks. It was erected following a promise made by the Bishops of Portugal to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, whom they asked to keep the country away from the horrors of the Second World War.

Castle Garden
The Jardim do Castelo, as a space surrounding the fortification to which it owes its name, has always been linked to the concepts of contemplation and festivity. Here you can enjoy sublime views over Lisbon, the Tagus, the São Paulo seminary, the Casa da Cerca or even the Boca do Vento panoramic lift on the Almada cliffs, making this the ideal spot from which to observe the Tagus estuary.
