Event Description
This hike starts at the Arrimal CCRD, next to Lagoa Pequena, and travelling through the surrounding mountains, we'll be able to see the Berlengas and Serra da Boa Viagem in good weather. Also noteworthy are the Arrimal Lagoons. Mills, oak groves, dry stone walls and other points of interest that we'll have the opportunity to pass by and observe. Another event not to be missed!
Arrimal and the Serra de Aires e Candeeiros Natural Park:
There will be 13 kilometres on this circular route, which will link Arrimal to the top of the mountain. In spring, the route presents us with a palette of colours that leaves us impressed and where the legendary, rare and protected albardeira rose grows, while in autumn it is covered in a thousand and one colours.
We'll discover an old iron mine, which was operated by the Lena Mining Company. On the way there and back, we'll cross the Fátima Roads, then climb to the top of the mountain where we'll find a mill, from where the views will be fabulous and with the sky open we'll be able to see the sea, the Berlengas and the Serra da Boa Viagem.
Then, along a dirt track, we'll reach the Arco da Memória (Arch of Memory), which marked the eastern limits of the Cistercian Lands, an important dividing line between the lands attributed by King Afonso Henriques to the Cistercian Monks, as the story goes.
We'll then climb back up to the Geodesic Mark, and then along country lanes and footpaths we'll return to the starting point, crossing a magnificent forest of Cerquinho Oak and Negral Oak, maintained by a herd of Sapper Goats that we'll hopefully be able to observe as they go about their daily business. Finally, we'll reach the Lagoa Grande do Arrimal, and from there back to the starting point.
Some of the points of interest on the walk
- Arrimal lagoons - Mills - Ancient oak groves - Caves and hollows - Dry stone walls - Cottages, poplar groves and threshing floors - Picnic park - Mediterranean woodland - Natural landscapes -
