This activity proposal aims to provide a weekend in the Bestança Valley area and in magical places on the banks of the River Douro. As well as hiking on the slopes and through the typical villages of the Montemuro mountain range, especially the marvellous valley of the Bestança river, there will be time for another walk on the Pedorido Walkways, on the banks of the Douro and the Arda river. We'll also visit two of the region's most beautiful viewpoints and finish with a boat trip on the Paiva River and Ilha dos Amores! Come and join us for another event not to be missed!

TIME: Departure from Lisbon at 6pm on 25th March

Through the villages of Serra de Montemuro and Vale do Aveloso

The Vale de Aveloso walk is a circular route in the shape of an eight, starting and finishing at the Tendais parish council. We'll pass through the village of Macieira and follow pavements and paths between walls to the Covais stream. After crossing the stream, we head towards Aveloso. This walk takes us past places of great scenic, cultural and architectural interest, such as: the Prado do Bestança; Ribeira de Tendais; Rio Bestança; Ponte de Soutelo; Eira Comunitária do Bustelo; Serra de Montemuro; Capela e Muralha das Portas de Montemuro.

Lunch will be in the form of a picnic, which is the responsibility of each participant

Through the Bestança Valley

This is a circular walk in the Bestança Valley along the banks of the river, passing through the towns of Vila de Muros, Covelas and Vale Verde. It starts at Largo da Nogueira, in Vila de Muros, heads towards the Roman bridge of Covelas, crossing the river Bestança to the right bank and climbs up to the village of Covelas on an old pavement. The route crosses a few times and reaches an area known as Prado. It then climbs up an old track to Vale Verde, where it continues on tarmac to Vila de Muros.

Pedorido

The Choupal area is a large and pleasant space, ideal for family get-togethers. Coming from Arouca, the River Arda ends its course here, flowing into the Douro. Sheltered by the tops of the poplar trees that gave the place its name, a small sandy beach on the banks of the Douro invites you to sunbathe. This is a favourable spot for water sports and fishing. This is also the start of the Viver o Douro (Living the Douro) walkways, which allow you to follow the course of the river towards Castelo de Paiva.
