EVENT: Walking in the Tua Valley: Viewpoints and Favaios

EVENT DESCRIPTION: “Walking in the Tua Valley: Viewpoints and Favaios”

In this activity proposal, we will go on three walks and get to know the region where the Tua Valley Natural Park is located, a territory of great beauty with the river's curves always surprising us, the viewpoints, the demarcated Douro region, as well as visits to Favaios (considered by some to be the capital of Douro muscatel wine), Foz do Tua and the Castle and Walled Village of Ansiães, very close to Carrazeda. There's also time to get to know the town of Alijó, where we'll be staying. Come with us and you won't regret it! Limited places

  • Walk from Alijó to Favaios
  • Vila de Alijó (Pillory, Mother Church, Garden, etc.)
  • Tua Natural Park (walk - Castanheiro do Norte - Olhos do Tua Viewpoint Trail)
  • Viewpoints Route: (São Lourenço, Olhos do Tua, Ujo, do Pescador, Barragem do Tua, etc)
  • Castle of Vila Muralhada de Ansiães
  • Walk in Carrazeda de Ansiães
  • Stroll in São Mamede de Ribatua
  • Walk at the mouth of the Tua
  • Natural landscapes

TIME: Departure from Lisbon at 7am
RETURN: Arrival in Lisbon at 7.30pm

Saturday 29th November

Walk: "On the Favaios Route”

Points of interest: Alijó Parish Church, Santa Bárbara Viewpoint, Pillory, Favaios Winery, Natural landscapes

The route starts in Alijó and from the town centre follows ancient paths until it reaches the town of Favaios, passing through some of the points mentioned above.

Level of difficulty of the route: 3 (Scale of 1 to 5)

Route length: 6 to 7 kilometres

  • We suggest the picnic option, which is the responsibility of each participant

Estimated time: 2h30

  • Tour of Alijó and Favaios
  • Visit and Wine Tasting at Adega Cooperativa de Favaios

- Group dinner suggestion in Alijó

30th November (Sunday)

Walking: “Walk in the Tua Valley”

Points of interest: Castanheiro do Norte, Miradouro Olhos do Tua, Talhariz, Capela de Talhariz, Capela e Miradouro do Senhor da Boa Morte, Fonte D'Além and Natural landscapes

This walk will take us to see the majestic landscape on the banks of the River Tua, as well as the villages of Castanheiro do Norte and Talhariz and superb viewpoints.

Level of difficulty of the route: 3.5 (Scale of 1 to 5)

Route length: 10 kilometres

Estimated time: 3h45

  • We suggest the picnic option, which is the responsibility of each participant
  • Viewpoints Route (Miradouro do Ujo and Miradouro de São Lourenço)
  • Visit to the Castle and Walled Village of Ansiães
  • Walk in Carrazeda de Ansiães

1st December (Monday)

Walking: “Walk in Foz do Tua and Douro River”

Points of interest: Foz do Tua, walkways, Tua dam, Foz-Tua Dam viewpoint, Fisherman's viewpoint and natural landscapes

The “Foz-Tua Trail” is a walking route that establishes close links with the Tua and the Douro - two rivers and two historic railway lines that structure the magnificent landscapes of the Alto Douro Wine Region, the Tua Valley Regional Nature Park (PNRVT) and the Douro Demarcated Region. The route ends at the Tua Valley Interpretive Centre.

Level of difficulty of the route: 2 (Scale of 1 to 5)

Route length: 6 kilometres

Estimated duration: 1h45

  • Stroll in São Mamede de Ribatua
  • We suggest the option of lunch at a local restaurant
