Event Description
This proposed walk takes place in the area between Mora and Cabeção. Starting at the Açude do Gameiro - River Beach, we'll walk along the footbridges of the Ribeira da Raia and then continue on to the village of Cabeção, the turning point of our route, with the return point being the Fluviário de Mora - Parque Ecológico do Gameiro. Another event not to be missed!
Ribeira da Raia
The Raia stream is a watercourse that rises in the municipality of Mora, more specifically in the parish of Cabeção, by joining the waters of two small streams, the Seda and the Tera. A few kilometres further on, it joins the Ribeira de Sor in the parish of Couço and is a tributary of the Sorraia river, which belongs to the Tagus river basin. In the initial stretch of the Raia stream is the Gameiro weir, part of the hydro-agricultural project known as the Ribeira de Prata. Probably the name Raia has Arabic origins.
Gameiro River Beach
Praia Fluvial do Gameiro is located in the Gameiro Ecological Park, very close to the Mora Fluviarium. The Gameiro Dam on the River Raia gave rise to this marvellous bathing area. This ecological park is a point of interest in the municipality due to the variety of attractions and infrastructures available. The existing infrastructures include a campsite, a picnic area, the Mora Fluviarium, an Arborist Park where the whole area is used for practising extreme activities. With youngsters in mind, there is a children's playground and a café with a fantastic terrace. There is also an Environmental Interpretation Centre. The most attractive spot is the beautiful wooden walkway, known as the Gameiro Ecological Park Walkway. It is made entirely of wood and is 1.5 kilometres long. It's an absolutely incredible landscape over the River Raia. All along the route there is information about the trees, shrubs and flowers. For nature lovers, this is undoubtedly the ideal place to spend pleasant summer days. The riverside flora is characterised by poplars and willows and in the trail area the presence of pines and cork oaks is remarkable.
