EVENT: Mondego Walkways and Sortelha Historical Village

EVENT DESCRIPTION: "Walking the Mondego Walkways and the Historic Village of Sortelha"

In this activity proposal from Caminhando, we'll take a magnificent walk along the famous Mondego Walkways, 12 kilometres long, with three suspension bridges, waterfalls and a unique landscape in the Mondego River Valley, between the Caldeirão Dam and Videmonte. We'll also take a walk in the Historic Village of Sortelha and get to know this marvellous land, which is part of Portugal's network of historic villages. There will also be time to visit the city of Guarda and we'll stay in a 4-star hotel.

These will be some of the most important places we'll visit along the various hikes:

• Tour of the city of Guarda
• Walk in the Historic Village of Sortelha
• Natural landscapes

TIME: Departure from Lisbon at 7am
RETURN: Arrival in Lisbon at 7.30pm

Saturday 11th March

Sortelha Historic Trail

On this walk we'll explore the historic and medieval centre of Sortelha, one of the most beautiful and well-preserved Historic Villages in Portugal, where we'll be surprised by its vast architectural and archaeological heritage. After leaving the walled area, we'll walk along medieval cobbled streets, ancestral paths and canadas, feel the freshness of the stream and visit the Minas da Bica, through a majestic valley where we can enjoy breathtaking views and a unique contact with nature.

Tour of Guarda

Located on one of the slopes of the Serra da Estrela mountain range, it is the highest city in the country at 1056 metres. This has made it a natural battleground since prehistoric times, ideal for the settlement of the Castro populations and later the Romans. On our tour we'll take the opportunity to walk around the historic centre and climb the Castle Tower, from where we'll have a panoramic view of the surrounding area.

9.30am - Walk "Mondego River Walkways"

The most beautiful walkways in the country are in Guarda! With a path along the banks of the River Mondego and its tributaries of around 12 kilometres, the route begins near the Caldeirão Dam, then extends through the valley, through the towns of Pêro Soares, Mizarela, Vila Soeiro, Trinta and ends in the mountains at Videmonte.
