Event Description

This walk starts near one of the largest avian communities that settled along the Tagus, in the municipality of Vila Franca de Xira. From there, you'll walk along the new walkway along the banks of the River Tagus, allowing you to enjoy the surrounding area. Then you'll follow dirt tracks and, after passing through the centre of Forte da Casa, you'll return to the mountains to connect with Quinta Municipal da Piedade, in the town of Póvoa de Santa Iria.

Visit to a typical Avieira house
Visit to the "Póvoa and the River" Museum Centre which covers the following themes:
The Tagus as a central communication axis since the first traces of human presence in the municipality (e.g. Phoenicians and Romans);
Salt exploration and extraction;
River transport of people and goods;
The establishment of the industry by the river;
The sedentarisation of a fishing community from Vieira de Leiria.
Riverside Linear Park
Visit to the Lines of Torres Vedras Interpretive Centre (Fort of the House), where the 2nd Defence Lines of Torres Vedras began, protecting Lisbon from French invasions.
