Event Description

This walk will start at Praça Dom Fernando II, in São Pedro de Penaferrim (Sintra), the site of the famous market that always takes place on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month. This will be a Great Walk, not only because of the 25 kilometres to be covered, but also because of some of the highest points in the Serra where we will pass, as well as the natural beauty of the Serra de Sintra. A Great Walk for Great Walkers! Another event not to be missed!

Event description

The walk takes in trails of great natural beauty and scenic interest in the green immensity of the Sintra mountains and begins at Largo de S. Pedro de Penaferrim, climbing up to the Miradouro de S. Eufémia, then following the Caminho de Vale Flor and the Capuchos road to Tapada do Saldanha, which will be crossed by varied and challenging paths towards Capuchos. It then borders the slopes of Alto do Monge until it reaches Pedras Irmãs, then descends along the Turfas trail to Lagoa do Dragão Verde and climbs along the Viúva trail to the Peninha Sanctuary. You'll then follow trails and roads to Alto do Monge and its tholos, then descend the vertiginous eastern slope to the Pontes trail and the Rio da Mula dam. It then heads along the road to the vicinity of Pedra Branca and from there along somewhat technical trails to Lagoa Azul. The final stretch to S. Pedro de Penaferrim will be at the foot of the slope, bordering some of Sintra's historic farms.
