Event Description
Lisbon's Fernandina Wall, built by King Ferdinand I in the last quarter of the 14th century, was an important fortification for the defence and structuring of the city, covering an area of over 100 hectares and including 77 towers and 34 gates. During this 7 km circular walk, we'll visit some of its remaining structures and discover how this wall influenced the growth and urban organisation of medieval Lisbon.
The starting point will be Casa dos Bicos, a historic building that today houses the José Saramago Foundation. Built in the 16th century, this house has witnessed countless transformations in the city and is close to one of the old gates in the wall. From here, we'll continue through the historic neighbourhoods that still preserve traces of this defensive structure, immersing ourselves in a journey full of curiosities and discoveries.
