Event Description
This proposed walk will start at Praça Dom Fernando II, and will take you through various parts of the town of Sintra, passing by countless fountains, some better known than others, but which we often don't even notice exist...! Come with us and be amazed! This is another event not to be missed!
Discovering the Fountains and Fountains of Sintra
Sintra is an ideal destination for lovers of nature and history. The town is full of historical sites and monuments that bear witness to the region's traditions and rich culture.
A significant element of Sintra's history, not only because of their more or less elaborate architectural and decorative elements, but also because of their utilitarian facet, are the fountains and fountains, testimony to a time when water was not yet supplied to the home. Fountains and springs, as well as being places of supply, were also places for socialising and sometimes even conflict. So, from the oldest to the most contemporary, from the most exuberant to the simplest, they all tell us a story of life in this historic town.
It is in this sense, in this process of discovery, that we will set off on this interesting walk, essentially urban, beginning and ending at Largo de S. Pedro de Penaferrim and passing through some of the town's most traditional sites, from Seteais to Estefânea, revealing more than two dozen of Sintra's fountains.
Some of the points of interest on the walk
- Chafariz do Fetal - Fonte da Sabuga - Fonte da Pipa - Fonte dos Pisões - Fonte de Seteais - Chafariz do Paço Real - Esguicho Manuelino - Fonte Mourisca - Chafariz dos Paços do Concelho - Fonte de S. Pedro - Chafariz da Santíssima Trindade - Chafariz Revivalista Rua Sotto Mayor -
