Event details

Event Description

At this event we will walk in an area where we have beautiful beaches, famous for their waves that delight surfers, such as Ribeira D'ilhas, north of Ericeira, but we'll also be travelling along rural paths, discovering lesser-known landscapes that are also full of interesting sights. Come along with our group for another morning well spent. Another event not to be missed!

Fort of St Susanna:

The Santa Susana fort, to the south of São Lourenço beach, was built in the 17th century by order of King João IV to defend against pirates attacking the coast. Together with the Picoto Fort, it formed part of the Lines of Torres Vedras (a set of fortifications designed to defend Lisbon during the French invasions); it also served as a barracks until 1948, when it was transferred to the Fiscal Guard. Around it you can see parapets and the gunboats opened in the 19th century.

Manueline Palace:

We'll be able to see the ruins of the Paço de Ilhas Palace, once owned by the Counts of Ericeira and which in 1968 still had a Manueline portal and window.

Ribeira d’ Ilhas Beach

Ribeira d'Ilhas Beach is located in a valley where a stream flows into it. Its geographical configuration is that of a natural amphitheatre, ideal for holding events. It's no coincidence that the first national and international championships to be held in Portugal took place here. Ribeira d'Ilhas is a long pointbreak right-hander (the waves follow the contour of the coast) that receives all kinds of swells and works at all tides, making it the most consistent wave in the region. With W/NO swells Ribeira d'Ilhas can offer rights up to 200 metres long. It's a very valuable and competitive wave, as it allows surfers the most different levels of approach.
