Event details

Event Description

In this event, we're going to take advantage of the day to go on a hike that will take us along 10 of the most emblematic viewpoints in the western part of the city of Lisbon, this time unveiling some of the best panoramic views of the Tagus River, the Discoveries area and the Monsanto Forest Park, among others. We'll walk through streets, gardens, staircases and trails in search of each of these places, some real treasures that need to be remembered and rediscovered! Come along and find out much more about the city of Lisbon.

Viewpoint of the Chapel of St Jerome

The Miradouro da Capela de São Jerónimo is located outside the Chapel or Hermitage of São Jerónimo, next to the Praça de Itália in Belém, protected by tall trees and dense vegetation.

Gravel, grass and a few wooden benches make up the church's observation area, but anyone who wants to use it as a viewpoint is mistaken. The trees make it practically impossible to see more than the Belém Tower and some of the coastal towns of Almada, such as Trafaria and Cova do Vapor.

This viewpoint could preferably be used as a place of peace and emotional tranquillity, greatly influenced by the religious presence of its chapel, rather than as a place to contemplate the landscape.

Keil do Amaral Viewpoint

The shortest route to the viewpoint is via the Moinho do Penedo car park, crossing the basketball court in the direction of Alameda Keil do Amaral. To the left of the Keil do Amaral Amphitheatre, follow a dirt track into the forest that leads to the first level of the viewpoint.

The end of the trail brings us the surprise of a dark stone structure, landscaped and divided into three quadrangular areas overlooking the landscape, with more private corners where we can sit and contemplate the panoramic view over Lisbon. The surrounding atmosphere is intimate and very romantic, as if nature wanted to share this little secret of the Serra de Monsanto with us.

Behind the viewpoint stretches a long garden corridor, leading to the upper level of the viewpoint via a staircase on the left about halfway up. Unfortunately, the view from here is almost non-existent, as the trees are very tall and block the entire field of vision. Even so, like the previous one, the location is extremely attractive. You feel in perfect harmony with the arrangement of all the elements, the pine trees growing out of the Portuguese pavement offer freshness and shade and the water element is present with a beautiful triangular lake close to the ground.
