Event Description
In this event we're going to take advantage of the day to go for a walk that will take us along 11 of the most emblematic viewpoints in Lisbon, this time unveiling some of the best panoramic views over the Tagus River and the eastern part of the city. We'll walk through streets, alleys, staircases and courtyards in search of each of these places, some real treasures that need to be remembered and rediscovered! Come along and find out much more about the city of Lisbon.
Monte Agudo viewpoint
What a magnificent image... You can see Lisbon as far as the eye can see! Next to us is a map of the city painted on tiles to feed the curiosity of those investigating the landscape.
We're beyond the northern edge of Santo André Hill, on the slope of the old Vale de Arroios, now Avenida Almirante Reis, a little below the Senhora do Monte viewpoint on our left...
The perspective is extremely long and all-encompassing, but it's difficult to spot specific points in the landscape because the urban rooftops are all repeated at the same height and very close together. The low height of this viewpoint doesn't help either...
Viewpoint of Our Lady of Porciúncula
The Miradouro da Nossa Senhora da Porciúncula, so called because it is located in the courtyard of the Church of Nossa Senhora da Porciúncula - also known as the Parish Church of Santa Engrácia - doesn't seem to have been built for the purpose of a belvedere but, if fortunate, it is situated on somewhat elevated ground overlooking the River Tagus.
Its elevation doesn't allow us to see more than the River Tagus and some of the nearby roofs along the riverside area of the parish of São Vicente de Fora.
Some of the points of interest on the walk
- Miradouro da Penha de França - Miradouro de Nossa Senhora da Porciúncula - Miradouro do Jardim Botto Machado - Miradouro Sophia de Mello Breyner - Miradouro das Portas do Sol - Miradouro de Santa Luzia - Miradouro da Senhora do Monte - Miradouro do Recolhimento - Miradouro do Monte Agudo - Miradouro de Santo Estevão - Miradouro do Chão do Loureiro -
