Route length: 14 kilometres

Estimated duration: 5h30m

Beijames river valley

The Beijames River Valley is one of the most unknown valleys in the entire Serra da Estrela Natural Park, which is why we'll be walking along its paths, between forests of holm oaks, ferns, pine trees, and surrounded by large cliffs, sometimes made of schist, sometimes of granite, but almost always we'll be able to hear the sound of the crystal-clear waters of the Beijames River and perhaps even be surprised by some local fauna....

31 October (Sunday)

Walk: "Beech Route and Covão da Ponte”

Level of difficulty of the route: 3+ (Scale from 1 to 5)

Route length: 12 kilometres

Expected duration: 6 hours

Beech Route and Covão da Ponte

Its name comes from the fact that this trail plunges into a dense beech forest, planted by the Manteigas Forestry Services at the beginning of the 20th century. In addition to this species, there are also chestnut trees, broom, Oregon pine and the imposing monumental oaks that surround the Chapel of S. Lourenço, a place of worship with pagan reminiscences related to the worship of trees and the sun - on the summer solstice, those in Manteigas see the sun rise over S. Lourenço.

1st November (Monday)

Walking: “Vale da Amoreira e Azinha”

Level of difficulty of the route: 3+ (Scale from 1 to 5)

Route length: 15 kilometres

Estimated duration: 5h30m

Amoreira Valley and Holm Oak Route

The Vale de Amoreira Route is strongly marked by human influence, allowing walkers to explore the parish's natural, cultural and landscape heritage. Its landscape is characterised by a wide variety of mosaics interspersed with woods, mudflats, patches of shrub vegetation, paths, walls, schist buildings, small streams, terraces and coniferous forests. In the humanised heritage, you can see narrow streets lined with typical houses and get to know the historical and religious culture of the local population, namely by visiting the Chapel of Our Lady of the Annunciation, patron saint of the parish, dating back to the early 14th century.
