Event Description
In this event we'll start by getting to know the Quinta Real de Caxias Waterfall Gardens in detail through a Guided Tour, and then we'll take a pleasant walk from the Fort of São Bruno to the Chapel of Alto da Boa Viagem, passing through Jamor, almost always accompanied by the sea. Another event not to be missed!
Gardens and waterfall at Quinta Real de Caxias
Quinta Real de Caxias is one of the most important monuments in the municipality of Oeiras. This magnificent example of a palace was built in the 18th and 19th centuries at the behest of the House of the Infantado. Built in the Baroque style of the court, inspired by the French style of the time, it is particularly impressive for its gardens, which are unique in Portugal. Sophisticated, elegant and planned down to the smallest detail, their star is the waterfall, with tiers arranged in a throne. But the lakes, the flowerbeds, the belvedere and the sculptural ensembles by Machado de Castro also contribute to the feeling of absolute geometry in this garden that took its inspiration from Versailles and shows you the entertainment of the courts in the 18th century. Tranquil and splendid, it's an obligatory stop on your walks in the Oeiras area.
After our visit, we'll take a light walk along the promenade to the Jamor Valley, with an extension to Alto da Barra, to admire the Tagus estuary, the south bank and the Bugio Lighthouse from the Alto da Boa Viagem Chapel.
