Event Description
Discover inner peace and connect with nature on a night walk with meditation in the area surrounding the Mula River Dam in Sintra. Leave behind the stresses and strains of everyday life and embark on a journey of self-discovery and adventure. During this guided walk with an experienced meditation instructor (introduction to the Vipassana tradition), you'll enjoy moments of silence and introspection as you walk through this magical forest.
Let your senses guide you in this unique environment and feel the energy of nature in an immersive, transformative and unforgettable experience. In the end, you'll find a sense of inner peace and fulfilment that will stay with you for a long time.
Mule River Dam
The Rio da Mula Dam is located in the Serra de Sintra in the municipality of Cascais to the east of what was then known as Costa Queimada, to the west and south of Tapada do Saldanha and to the north of Quinta do Pizão. The reservoir divides the municipalities of Sintra and Cascais. It was built in 1969 to supply water to the municipality. The dam has a support wall 18 metres high and 192 metres wide, a flooded area of 45,000m² and a capacity to store 23,000,000m³ of water.
The entire forested area surrounding the Mula river dam is Tapada do Saldanha, an ecologically degraded area. Once royal hunting and agricultural land, it is now owned by the public company Parques de Sintra - Monte da Lua, which has endeavoured to restore native vegetation and control invasive exotic species, with a view to restoring the native forest, boosting biodiversity and reducing the risk of fire.
Bridges Trail
The Trilho das Pontes is a circular trail about 4 km long that starts and finishes at the car park of the Barragem do Rio da Mula, in the Serra de Sintra. The trail is characterised as easy and lasts approximately 1 hour. The trail crosses the River Mula more than 20 times, always on small wooden bridges.
