Event Description
At this event we will walk between the Penhas do Marmeleiro Park in Murches and Quinta do Pisão, almost always with the Serra de Sintra on the horizon, especially Peninha and the Pena Palace. There's no shortage of interesting sights at Quinta do Pisão, such as the lime kiln or the area where you can see the woolly donkeys. Come along with our Group for another morning well spent. Another event not to be missed!
Quinta do Pisão:
Quinta do Pisão de Cima, owned by the Ministry of Labour and Social Solidarity and managed by Santa Casa da Misericórdia, is located in the north of the municipality of Cascais, at the foot of the Serra de Sintra, and comprises 380 hectares of land entirely within the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park. The site's geography is characterised by gentle relief and limestone soils, as evidenced by the rocky ridge that defines the Penha Longa and Marmeleiro streams. The essentially Mediterranean characteristics combine with an Atlantic influence, imposing a wetter edaphoclimatic regime and giving rise to unique vegetation profiles. Dedicated to agro-sylvo-pastoral activity, the Quinta represents an important heritage, both in terms of the structural organisation of the landscape, compartmentalisation and rational use, and in the presence of ruins of cultural and architectural value. Human intervention in this area (which lies in the transition between the urban area and the Sintra Mountains) has resulted in the emergence of new habitats and ecological niches, which are now important for the preservation of nature. Quinta do Pisão aims to safeguard this ecological, cultural and historical heritage of great importance to Cascais, perpetuating a productive interaction between human activity and the natural space.
