Event details

Event Description

In this event, we're going to take advantage of the day to go on a hike that will take us along 8 of the most emblematic viewpoints in the city of Lisbon, this time unveiling some of the best panoramic views of the city of Lisbon and its surroundings, with special emphasis on some of the Monsanto viewpoints. We'll also explore some gardens in the urban area and trails in the green heart of the city, which need to be preserved and rediscovered! Come along and find out more about the city of Lisbon.

Alto da Serafina viewpoint

On a higher level of the Alto da Serafina Recreational Park, we find a grassy and tarmac clearing, where a shed has been built that houses a sort of mini-bar and some benches to support the curious onlookers. Alto da Serafina viewpoint.

We are totally enveloped by the spirit of nature as we observe the landscape from the east face of the Serra de Monsanto, in the parish of Benfica. Despite its beauty, the same vegetation also hides part of the nearby landscape.

To the south, in the distance, we see the 25 de Abril Bridge arching over the River Tagus, in front of the Christ the King in Almada. The east perspective takes in Lisbon's urban landscape, with the three Amoreiras Towers and the Águas Livres Aqueduct standing out.

Viewpoint of the 3 Crosses of Calhau

This viewpoint is located at an altitude of 125 metres and offers a wide-ranging view of Sete Rios and part of the Alcântara valley. Nothing remains of the original building but the current ruins.

Moinhos do Mocho Viewpoint

They were built during the Estado Novo period, with the sobriety and austerity characteristic of their author, the architect Keil do Amaral, and are now a holiday area where two mills stand out, recalling a past when cereal fields lined the hills.

Monsanto Panoramic Viewpoint - is currently closed

In  The Monsanto Panoramic Restaurant was born in the heart of Monsanto Forest Park, by the hands of architect Chaves da Costa. Almost 50 years later, what could easily be considered Lisbon's best viewpoint is now a completely abandoned site, at the mercy of vandalism and the weather.

O Monsanto Panoramic ViewpointThe Monsanto Panoramic, or just the Monsanto Panoramic as it's mostly known, hasn't always been a restaurant; it's also been home to offices and even a bingo hall.

Although its entire area is closed off to the public and it is impossible to see the landscape from the top, anyone wishing to visit it must travel along the west side of Estrada da Bela Vista (one-way), as the road in the opposite direction is occupied by a cycle path.

We must emphasise the importance of this viewpoint for Lisbon, as you can see the whole city from here. It's heartbreaking to see its ruins...
