Event details

Event Description

In this event we'll start our walk at Casa Ermelinda Freitas, and we'll walk through authentic vineyard gardens, in one of the regions with excellent wines and several wineries, where we'll make some strategic stops to taste the region's famous nectar! Another event not to be missed!

Ermelinda Freitas House

Inheriting 60 hectares of vineyards of just two varieties: Castelão and Fernão Pires, located in Fernando Pó in the Palmela region, Leonor Freitas, with her innovative and differentiating spirit, introduced a diversity of varieties such as Trincadeira, Touriga Nacional, Aragonês, Syrah, Alicante Bouschet, among others. Casa Ermelinda Freitas currently owns 440 hectares of vineyards, where 60% are Castelão, 30% of red varieties such as Touriga Nacional, Trincadeira, Syrah, Aragonês, Alicante Bouschet, Touriga Franca, Merlot and Petit Verdot, and 10% of white grapes such as Fernão Pires, Chardonnay, Arinto, Verdelho, Sauvignon Blanc and Moscatel de Setúbal. Given the farm's privileged location, it produces some of the best wines in the region

Filipe Palhoça Wines

Castelão, Syrah, Alicante Boushet, Touriga Nacional, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot are the dominant red grape varieties. The white varieties are Fernão Pires, Arinto and Síria, as well as Moscatel de Alexandria and the rare Moscatel Roxo. All are carefully cultivated under the integrated production regime, respecting the environment. The 90 hectares produce around 1 million litres of wine a year under the leadership of the founder's son, Nuno Palhoça, under the guidance of oenologist Jaime Quendera.

Fernão Pó Winery

At Adega Fernão Pó, the Freitas & Palhoça family endeavours to combine tradition with the best of modern technology. The winery has undergone constant improvements over time and has a processing capacity of around 1,000 tonnes of grapes. And it includes social and environmental concerns, such as adherence to the Wine in Moderation and Business and Biodiversity programmes, as well as producing grapes with environmental certification.
