Meditation
Introduction to Vipassana meditation, a deep meditation technique rooted in the Buddhist tradition. Vipassana means “clear vision” or “special perception”. This form of meditation has been practised for thousands of years to achieve a deeper understanding of the mind and reality.
The Vipassana meditation technique involves the systematic and direct observation of physical and mental sensations that constantly arise and disappear. By observing these sensations with equanimity, without attachment or aversion, it is possible to develop a deeper understanding of impermanence, dissatisfaction and the absence of a permanent self.
Practitioners sit quietly in a comfortable position and direct their attention to the breath and the physical sensations of the body. Over time, this practice of objective observation helps develop clear awareness and a deep understanding of the impermanent and interconnected nature of all things. It is a tool for personal development and improving consciousness.
The meditation is led by a qualified instructor, who guides you through each step. No previous meditation experience is necessary, just a willingness to learn and experiment. The activity is suitable for people of all ages and physical conditions. Don't miss this opportunity to connect with nature and your true self. Sign up and come and meditate in the Sintra forest.
Monserrate Palace and Park:
Monserrate Palace was built in the 19th century and is known for its exotic architecture and lush gardens. The palace combines Gothic, Renaissance and Indian elements, creating a unique blend of architectural styles. It was commissioned by the Englishman Sir Francis Cook, who fell in love with the Sintra region and decided to build a luxurious summer residence.
The halls are decorated with tiles, colourful stained glass windows, elaborate stucco work and carved wooden details. Each room has a different theme, inspired by different cultures and historical periods. The Monserrate gardens are an outstanding example of 19th century romantic landscaping. They feature a wide variety of exotic plants from all over the world, including palms, cacti, ferns and many other rare species. The gardens also feature streams, lakes and charming bridges, providing a tranquil and magical atmosphere.
Mosque Lagoon:
Lagoa dos Mosqueiros is a beautiful lake located in the Serra de Sintra and is less well known than the neighbouring Lagoa Azul, but just as stunning. Access is more difficult, but there are several trails to get there and some of them are among the most beautiful in the region. It can be reached by continuing along the Pontes Trail to the Capuchos Convent from the Rio da Mula Dam. It's a popular trail for hiking and mountain biking.
