Tholos of the Monk
Tholos do Monge is a megalithic (prehistoric) monument. Originally, 4,500 years ago, it was a collective tomb and was later reused in the Bronze Age (1800 BC to 800 BC). Today, it is a white obelisk that stands on almost flat rocks (geodesic landmark). It is located at the top of the Capuchos road on the ridge of the mountain. It is called Alto do Monge or Tholos do Monge and has an altitude of 491 metres. It is the third highest point in the entire mountain range.
Capuchin Convent
The Capuchos Convent was founded in the 16th century and is known for its simplicity and natural integration with the surrounding landscape. This Franciscan convent stands out for its simplicity, completely devoid of luxury and comfort. The building materialises the philosophy and ideals of the Order of St Francis of Assisi: the search for spiritual perfection through detachment from the world and renunciation of the pleasures associated with earthly life. The convent is situated on a hillside, surrounded by lush vegetation and offers breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean. The convent also has a small chapel, several lodges and a vegetable garden. It is a unique and serene destination for those interested in history, architecture and nature.
Meditation
Come and enjoy a unique experience of connecting with nature and your inner self. In this activity, you'll walk through the mountain forest, breathing in the fresh air and enjoying the scenery. Then we'll take part in an introductory session on Vipassana meditation, a technique taught by the Buddha that helps develop mindfulness, peace and wisdom. You'll learn to observe thoughts, emotions and sensations, without identifying with or attaching to them. You'll discover how meditation can transform your life, bringing you more harmony, happiness and freedom.
The meditation is led by a qualified instructor, who guides you through each step. No previous meditation experience is necessary, just a willingness to learn and experiment. The activity is suitable for people of all ages and physical conditions. Don't miss this opportunity to connect with nature and your true self. Sign up and come and meditate in the Sintra forest
